Juventus keen to make move for Arsenal center-back but may face Barcelona competition

Juventus are the latest club thought to be keen on a move for Arsenal center back Gabriel Magalhaes, but could face competition from Barcelona should the Gunners decide to cash in on the Brazilian.

That is courtesy of generally reliable Italian journalist Di Marzio, who claims that ‘with the departing Chiellini, Juve are looking for a central profile and one of the first targets is Gabriel of Arsenal’.

The report continues that they hope to use the fact that the Gunners are thought to be interested in some of the current Old Lady squad to sweeten any deal for the defender, who has made 33 appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side this season so far.

‘Juventus will try to enter into negotiations with Arsenal, also focusing on the fact that the Gunners like several Juve players’.

Mikel Arteta’s side did try and strike a loan deal in January for Brazilian player Arthur Melo, but it is unclear who else they would be keen on should players become available for the north London outfit.

Barcelona also in the race?

Gabriel is a player in high demand, with Barcelona also thought to be keen on adding the defender to their side this summer should the opportunity arise.

They have already extended the contract of Ronald Araujo and added Andreas Christensen to their side for the summer in an attempt to bolster their backline, but Gabriel would offer another left-footed profile that is becoming more attractive to managers of a certain style of football, such as that played by Xavi.

Of course, at present it seems unlikely that Arsenal will want to part ways with their Brazilian defender unless a hefty offer comes their way, with their backline looking settled and Gabriel very much a key part of it.
